Both with young families, Alec and Andrew of the Tullaberga are huge advocates for sustainable fishing.
“We are always working towards a better way of doing things.” Says Alec. “We have both grown up fishing and so really it’s all we know. It’s not just our future and our livelihood - but it’s my children and their futures. I have four daughters who love all sea creatures big and small – so in that regard I am also inspired by the new technology available to reduce our bycatch and overall harm on the environment”.
The crew on the Tullaberga are taking significant measures to ensure as little impact on the animals and their environment as possible. “We recently introduced technology such as baffles which reduce our impact on birdlife such as the albatross” Says Chris. “As well as a T90 panel which is a thicker weave of net that, in theory, should allow a lot more juvenile fish to escape”.
