Blaire grew up in Preston, Victoria and started scalloping in Port Phillip Bay with his dad from a young age. His family also did a brief stint running prawn boats throughout Western Australia. After the Port Phillip Bay was closed down to commercial fishing, his family moved to Lakes Entrance where he worked on board vessels including the Marley Point, the Erin Jay and the Cape Everard - Prawing Trawling, Danish Seine and Shark fishing. Blaire then went on to complete his Master Five 9 years ago, and bought the Christine Claire 4 years ago.
He says “With all the new technology we have on board, and security measures we have to take the industry is extremely well managed – you could say that really it could not be improved.”
