Shane could be considers as somewhat of a late bloomer in the fishing industry. Originally a sparky, Shane started trawling for a couple of years before working on board the Gaylar and the Maramingo. Shane then completed his skipper’s ticket and went on to work alongside Brian Bolding on board the Nina. Shane has moved on to various vessels and fishing methods but settled on this vessel Cape Everard with Rodney Casement for the past twenty-five years, buying his share in the business twelve years ago.
“I have been providing sustainably caught gummy shark from the pristine waters of Bass Strait for the last 25 years. I am also chair of the Sustainable Shark Fishing Association which provides a voice to management (AFMA) from actual fishers of the gill net Hook and Trap fishery (GHAT). I am also a member of the South East management advisory committee (SEMAC). Cape Everard is the most active vessel in the fleet directly employing 3 skippers, 3 crew and 2 part time net makers.”.
